Marks & Spencer Fundraising Update

We are delighted to confirm that through partnership with M&S Ayr as their Charity of the Year, we have raised £5479 so far smashing our fundraising target of £5000!  A huge thank you to everyone at Marks & Spencer, everyone who has donated and all of our volunteers.  Our time with M&S extends into Spring of 2018 so we’ll still be fundraising in earnest helping us to continue to bring the best possible service to those who need us.

SADSA is proud to announce that we have been granted the total of £1,150.16 from Prestwick Decides to purchase a hoist for our clients. This means that we can now extend our service to those who may have limited mobility or difficulty moving. We were lucky enough to be voted as one of the winners on the day by the local community. Here we are celebrating the success!

PRESTWICK CARERS DAY
On 24th November, a Carers’ Day of entertainment and refreshments was held for carers living in the Prestwick and Heathfield area hosted by Prestwick Academy. Feedback from the event showed that everyone enjoyed themselves. SADSA provided transport and received a letter of thanks from Cllr Hugh Hunter for our help and efforts in ensuring success on the day.

SCARECROW FESTIVAL
The Scarecrow Festival at St Leonards Church, running from 28th to 30th September, managed to raise £1,667 for SADSA! The church area was full of brilliantly designed scarecrows from a very talented team of designers. Everyone who attended had a great time. Here is a photo of one of the many scarecrows. As you can see, the expertise involved was fantastic. A huge thanks to everyone from St. Leonards! We are so grateful.

HALLOWEEN FUNDRAISER SUCCESS
Many thanks to everyone who turned out to support our Halloween fundraiser concert. We managed to raise an excellent £467 on the night and a great night was had by all. Thank you so much to our wonderful performers for providing a night of fantastic entertainment and a huge mention to Pat Lappin who masterminded the whole event for us! For those couldn’t make it on the night, answers on a postcard – just which one of the SADSA team was the pumpkin?!

LITTLE ART SCHOOL
SADSA are proud to host the Little Art School fortnightly classes and warmly welcome the LAS teachers and wonderful participants, both visitors to SADSA and our own service users. The next session will be held on 12th December. We would like to congratulate Mrs Deans, whose design was chosen to feature on the first ever set of LAS Christmas cards! A special presentation was held on 22nd November to celebrate the launch. If you would like to purchase a pack of these beautiful Christmas cards with the special design of “Christmas Bells”, please call Liz for further details.

OUTINGS
Our clients recently enjoyed an outing for their afternoon tea to the Pioneer Cafe in Monkton. A great time was had by all. Christmas afternoon tea is planned for groups from both Centres on 14th December at Dobbies where we’ll also enjoy a look at all of the lovely decorations.

MINCEPIE AND MINGLE
On 15th December, please feel free to come along to an open house at 2 Eglinton Terrace from 2pm to 4pm for some fun socialising and a blether! We will be providing plenty of mince pies to get you all in the Christmas spirit.

THERAPET VISITS
Fortnightly visits continue from Robbie, the Therapet and are looked forward to by all. Robbie was nominated by SADSA for a Canine Award and on Saturday 2nd December, although he wasn’t the winner this time, he’ll be visiting Auchenday proudly wearing the rosette he received for taking part. We’ll post a photo in the next newsletter. The award went to a brave little dog who had been through a terrible time after being knocked down in a car accident, so Robbie didn’t mind too much on losing out to a well-deserved winner. Well done Robbie!

A VISIT FROM KINGCASE NURSERY
On the 27th of November, the children from Kingcase Primary School came to our Auchenday centre to participate in craft activities with our clients. A great time was had by both our clients and the children. A small group of children will be returning for activities on 11th December and on 18th December, thirty children will be visiting in full voice singing Christmas Carols for us. We can’t wait to welcome them! Thank you Kingcase Nursery!

ENTERTAINMENT
Wonderful entertainment has been regularly provided by Mr Deans and Pat Lappin. Thank you both so much for your continued support of SADSA! We always look forward to your visits.

DONATIONS
The total donated since the last newsletter is a whopping £5630! Particular mention goes to Darroch Trust, Alloway Parish Church and Barry Wortley who took part in the Glasgow Run for SADSA (pictured here courtesy of Ayrshire Post).

South Ayrshire Dementia Support Association at 2 Egllington Terrace, Ayr received a cheque for £350 from Barry Wortley seen here presenting it to Liz Campbell Day Centres Manager.
Barry Wortley is a pro golfer at Roodlea and ran a 10k race for the first time in Glasgow on the 1st October raising funds for SADSA

Much of the total was fundraised through Marks & Spencers in-store events and bag packing that has been taking place since SADSA was chosen as M&S Charity of the Year. We would like to give a huge thanks to the generosity of the M & S customers as well as the staff and volunteers who have so kindly given their time.

STAFF TRAINING
Our staff at both Auchenday and Eglinton have recently received extra training. This has involved training our staff to look out for any clients who may be experiencing chest, heart pains or a stroke and what should be done in this situation. Very valuable training, we’re sure you’ll agree.

CARER TRAINING
On 23rd November, Dr Maggie Ellis and Grace Garrity of St Andrews University, travelled to Eglinton to provide specialist training for carers of those living with dementia. This training session took place over the course of a day and has been proven to be very informative and popular with our carers. We would like to extend a big thank you to Maggie and Grace for taking the time to come to Ayr and share their expertise in the field of dementia. Another session is scheduled to take place early in the New Year.

CHRISTMAS FESTIVITIES
In the week leading up to Christmas, there will be festivities held at our Centres all week long. Feel free to come along and join in the fun! If you wish to do so, just phone us for further information. We will be holding Christmas parties for our clients every day!

FLEXIBLE CARE
SADSA is pleased to offer a new initiative in support of both service users and carers alike. Please call to discuss your needs for drop-in; from a few hours to allow carers to do shopping, to half a day or perhaps a whole day like today. We are here for you. Our early adopters have been very happy with our flexible care programme. If you are interested, our flexible care is only a call away.

PARTICIPATION STRATEGY
We have a Participation Strategy to involve Stakeholders, Carers and Users in the recruitment and development of our staff and services. To this end, we would like to invite anyone within these groups the opportunity to participate in this process, whether this is in interviewing or suggesting how to improve and develop the services we provide. Please contact us if you would like to be involved.
